Storytelling through a lens: An endeavor I am pursuing with all my heart.

I currently shoot with a Nikon D5000 and a GoPro Hero 5. I joined the Memphis Camera Club in September to enrich my learning of the art. The first class was on composition: the pleasing arrangement of elements. I am learning and practicing the basics now.

The 3 pillars of a Great Photo: Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO

Aperture – How much light will enter your lens & How sharp will that picture be?

… measured in f-stops on your camera.

… Landscape photo: f-5.6 everything is sharp and in focus

… Portrait: f-2.2 blurred forefront and background

ImprovePhoto does a great job with the details here.

Shutter Speed – Capture Motion or stop it in its tracks

… Stop motion: high shutter speed 1/320

… Capture motion: low shutter speed 1/30

ISO – how sensitive your image sensor is to light (high ISO – more sensitive to light – trade off on quality here though)

… full sun, set to 100

… in the shade, set to 400

… inside or overcast day, set to 700

Here are a few of my images…

At the Charlotte-Douglass airport, angelic music was playing. I was amazed that in all of the hustle and bustle of an airport, I had this elegant experience just listening.

Artists who seek perfection in everything are those who cannot attain it in anything.
